Onion – Onion is one of the most important vegetable crops. It is food full of beneficial elements and medical advantages. Most of the time it’s used raw or fried in vegetable oil until golden brown. Raw onions are a perfect complement for sausages and meat products, cheeses, cream cheeses, and breads with bacon. The body and leaves are used as seasoning in the perishable industry, in salads, with mushrooms, vegetable and meat dishes, as well as a spicy snack, vitamin and flavoring for soups, sauces, gravies and stuffing. It’s used in medicine since the time of Hippocrates. Medicinal properties of the onion are recognized by nations around the world. The Romans believed that the strength and courage of a soldier is increased by consumption of an onion, so it was always in military dietary regimen. In Egypt, onions were worshiped on godly level. In the times of Hippocrates, onions were prescribed to patients with rheumatism, gout, as well as obesity. In Russia, it has long been one of the main foods and is considered a universal tool, which prevents and cures diseases.
